Abyssinian Kitten History
From the various mural and other paintings
which have been preserved to us from the
days of the Pharaohs, the nearest approach
to the Sacred Cat of Ancient Egypt now existing
is the Aby. With the many speculations on
the cat's history, Abyssinian kittens are
known to be one of the oldest breeds in
the feline world.
Although
the word Abyssinian was named after Ethiopia,
formerly Abyssinia, through cat shows exhibited
in England, its introduction to that country
and others may have been the result of colonists
and merchants stopping in the coast of Indian
Ocean and parts of Southeast Asia.
Abyssinian Kitten Characteristics
A feline that strikes a medium between the
cobby type and the svelte, elongated breeds.
The impression an aby gives is that of a
small cougar, lithe yet muscular and strong
with exceptional balance. Abyssinians are
slender, short-haired cat breed distinguished
by its ticked coat pattern in a manner associated
with wild cats. The Canadian Cat Association
recognizes Abyssinians in 4 colors: ruddy,
red, blue and fawn.
Ruddy. The hair is ticked with shades
of brown or black with a vibrant burnt
orange.
Red. The coat is rich, warm glowing red,
ticked with chocolate-brown where the
extreme outer tip to be dark, with red
undercoat.
Blue. With its warm blue grey base coat
and slate blue ticking.
Fawn. The coat is warm rose-beige, ticked
with light cocoa brown, the extreme outer
tip to be the darkest, with blush beige
undercoat.

Abyssinian Personality
An Abyssinian kitten is a very active, playful,
and inquisitive breed. They flower in a
one-on-one person-cat relationship. They
are usually not lap cats, being too preoccupied
with exploring and playing, yet they are
peaceful and serene. Their being affectionate
to humans make them a major reason for their
popularity as pets.
If you want something exciting, yet gentle
and loving, an Abyssinian kitten is the
